Forensic Electrical Engineer Position

Fire Research Laboratory

 

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)

 

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Fire Research Laboratory is recruiting for an electrical engineer. The Fire Research Laboratory provides technical support to criminal investigations. Evaluating the potential for electrical systems to cause fires and electrical testing of a variety of items is a primary focus of the position. A successful applicant is an individual with broad exposure to electrical supply, distribution and utilization equipment in the field and the laboratory.


Two vacancy announcements are posted, but only one person will be hired. Applicants with either an electrical engineering degree or electrical engineering technology degree will be considered.
The first vacancy announcement (Job Announcement Number: DPO-D04-007-AJ) is for an electrical engineer with forensic electrical engineering experience. The salary range is $50,593 to $81,589 per year based on experience. It is a Band 2 position. Competitive promotion to Band 3 is possible.
The second vacancy announcement (Job Announcement Number: DPO-D04-008-AJ) is for an entry-level electrical engineer. The salary range is $27,597 to $62,558 per year. It is a Band 1 position with non-competitive promotion potential to Band 2. The position is located in Ammendale, Maryland a suburb of Washington, DC. A background investigation for a Top Secret clearance must be successfully completed for employment. The closing date for applications is December 28. The ATF personnel office must receive completed applications by that date.
